A young oak tree dreams of growing tall and straight and beautiful. When violence shatters her dreams, her path is hopelessly altered. Attempting to hide her imperfections, she labors to produce the most beautiful leaves. Year follows year until, one day, her strength is gone. On that day, she asks God the questions she has been too ashamed to voice. Oak’s story provides insight into the effects of trauma. While not specific to a religion or philosophy, The Riven Tree seeks to answer the heart’s deepest question: “What does God think of me?” Like Oak in this story, author Robby Kautz’ life was altered by violence. Unspoken questions haunted her until a message from God brought healing. The Riven Tree shares this message with readers whose lives have been altered by trauma. Reminiscent of The Giving Tree, this illustrated book offers redemption and hope for wounded hearts. “The Riven Tree is a masterpiece! Acorn’s journey mirrors so many who have endured abuse and trauma. Robby Kautz elegantly weaves her inspired tale – every word is intentional, every sentence paints a picture, and every page tells a thousand stories. My prayer is that survivors of all ages, all ethnicities, all social-standings, and all religions will find hope and healing in this beautiful book.” Lori Wilkerson Stewart, Author, Promises for Prodigals, and Managing Producer, Christian Broadcasting Network “The Riven Tree is a beautifully written allegorical tale that sensitively conveys the emotions and questions experienced by anyone who has had their life torn by trauma. Having lived it herself, Robby Kautz is able to put to words this often unspoken and isolating journey. For those who have traveled this path, The Riven Tree will encourage you toward hope and a deep sense that you are worthy, loved, and beautiful. As a trauma therapist, I’m delighted to have such a relatable resource to help my clients process their experience. I will be recommending it wholeheartedly!” Laura Taggart, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Author, Making Love Last: Divorce-Proofing Your Young Marriage

A fresh twist on Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree based on a real tree in Wisconsin that became something more, this is a timeless story about loss and renewal at home and in nature. "This is a true story about a Tree that grew from something more than water and sunshine. It grew from love." The animals and humans always knew their tree was special. The trunk was the best place to host championship bingo tournaments, and the branches were perfect for swinging in the shade! But when the tree gets sick, neighbors new and old will have to join forces if they have any chance of saving their treetop home. A touching tale based on the true story of one special tree, and the community that brought it back to life.

Spend a white Christmas on Summer Island, where the fires are warm and the romance is hotter Lila Sloan wonders why she ever thought house-sitting for her sister Meg on the remote Summer Island was a good idea. And to make matters worse, local real estate developer Beck Grainger is trying to cut down the beautiful trees that line the property. Lila can’t let this happen; Meg will never forgive her. Beck can understand Lila’s anger—sort of. The trees are actually on the neighboring property, and the land was zoned for development months ago, so his plans were no secret. But he dislikes being at odds with his friend’s sister, especially because Lila is appealing in every way: loyal, quick-witted and completely stunning. Lila hates that she’s so attracted to Beck, who seems like a genuinely good man, despite his tree-murdering tendencies. And their chemistry is off the charts. She just wishes he’d let this development go. As Summer Island counts down to a snowy Christmas, Lila and Beck will have to strike a compromise that seems impossible for them both—or risk losing the best thing either of them has ever had.

From one of the world's most celebrated moral philosophers comes a thorough examination of the current political crisis and recommendations for how to mend a divided country. For decades Martha C. Nussbaum has been an acclaimed scholar and humanist, earning dozens of honours for her books and essays. In The Monarchy of Fear she turns her attention to the current political crisis that has polarized America since the 2016 election. Although today's atmosphere is marked by partisanship, divisive rhetoric, and the inability of two halves of the country to communicate with one another, Nussbaum focuses on what so many pollsters and pundits have overlooked. She sees a simple truth at the heart of the problem: the political is always emotional. Globalization has produced feelings of powerlessness in millions of people in the West. That sense of powerlessness bubbles into resentment and blame. Blame of immigrants. Blame of Muslims. Blame of other races. Blame of cultural elites. While this politics of blame is exemplified by the election of Donald Trump and the vote for Brexit, Nussbaum argues it can be found on all sides of the political spectrum, left or right. Drawing on a mix of historical and contemporary examples, from classical Athens to the musical Hamilton, The Monarchy of Fear untangles this web of feelings and provides a roadmap of where to go next.
