The country is in revolt, the capital city is besieged and any victory will be hard won. But the Red Knight has a plan. The question is, can he negotiate the political, magical, real and romantic battlefields at the same time -- especially when he intends to be victorious on them all?

Learn the Words. Get the blood. Rule the world. The Ustari Cycle starts here. From the "exhilarating, powerful, and entertaining" (Guardian) storyteller of the Avery Cates series comes a gritty supernatural thriller featuring a pair of unlikely heroes caught up in the underground world of blood magic. Magicians: they are not good people. The ethics in a world of blood are gray—and an underground strata of blood magicians has been engineering disasters for centuries in order to acquire enough fuel for their spells. Although in the modern world these mages stay in the shadows, their exploits have become no less bloody. Still, some practitioners use the Words and a swipe of the blade to cast simpler spells, such as Charms and Cantrips to gas up $1 bills so they appear to be $20s. Lem Vonnegan and his sidekick Mags fall into this level of mage, hustlers and con men all. Lem tries to be ethical by using only his own blood, by not using Bleeders or "volunteers." But it makes life hard. Soon they might have to get honest work. When the pair encounter a girl who's been kidnapped and marked up with magic runes for a ritual spell, it's clear they're in over their heads. Turning to Lem's estranged Master for help, they are told that not only is the girl's life all but forfeit, but that the world's preeminent mage, Mika Renar, has earth-shattering plans for her—and Lem just got in the way. With the fate of the world on the line, and Lem both spooked and intrigued by the mysterious girl, the other nominate him to become the huckleberry who'll take down Renar. But even if he, Mags, and the simpletons who follow him prevail, they're dealing with the kind of power that doesn't understand defeat, or mercy. (The first portion of We Are Not Good People was originally published in an altered form as Trickster by Pocket Books).

Three twentysomething guys who transitioned from collegiate underachieving to corporate bottom feeding sketch out a plan to make a grab for some dignity. They will rob the publishing house that employs their only stable member and insults him on a daily basis. Being the bright, perceptive fellows they are, they all quickly realize it isn't about the money. For Phil "Dub" Dublen, it's a pissed off statement against a dull, meaningless job. For self-styled poet Trim, it's a chance to actually be as outrageous and anarchic as he needs to be. For Trim's roommate Dan, it seems to be something he does for the same reason he does everything: to vent some anger, having nothing to do. By the time their master plan is all said and done, nothing has been solved, nothing is better, and nothing, really, has changed. And in the slightly fractured wisdom of the larcenous trio, this surprises none of them.

With over a hundred million viewers, Jack Barron is a media star of the highest celebrity—think Jerry Springer crossed with Ted Koppel—and his call-in talk show is the perfect platform for reform. But every man has his price, and when a cryogenics millionaire makes Jack an offer he can't refuse—immortality—anything can happen. Bug Jack Barron, Norman Spinrad’s fourth novel, was first published in 1969, and is commonly acknowledged to be the book that established Spinrad’s brilliant style and made his name. Its exploration of the timeless and universally relevant theme of big business corrupting democratic process, stands out now as an unforgettable and bitingly satirical work of imagination that remains as relevant as ever to today’s television and media obsessed culture.

Debut novelist Simon Kurt Unsworth sends the detective novel to Hell. In The Devil's Detective, a sea change is coming to Hell . . . and a man named Thomas Fool is caught in the middle. Thomas Fool is an Information Man, an investigator tasked with cataloging and filing reports on the endless stream of violence and brutality that flows through Hell. His job holds no reward or satisfaction, because Hell has rules but no justice. Each new crime is stamped "Do Not Investigate" and dutifully filed away in the depths of the Bureaucracy. But when an important political delegation arrives and a human is found murdered in a horrific manner—extravagant even by Hell's standards—everything changes. The murders escalate, and their severity points to the kind of killer not seen for many generations. Something is challenging the rules and order of Hell, so the Bureaucracy sends Fool to identify and track down the killer. . . . But how do you investigate murder in a place where death is common currency? Or when your main suspect pool is a legion of demons? With no memory of his past and only an irresistible need for justice, Fool will piece together clues and follow a trail that leads directly into the heart of a dark and chaotic conspiracy. A revolution is brewing in Hell . . . and nothing is what it seems. The Devil's Detective is an audacious, highly suspenseful thriller set against a nightmarish and wildly vivid world. Simon Kurt Unsworth has created a phantasmagoric thrill ride filled with stunning set pieces and characters that spring from our deepest nightmares. It will have readers of both thrillers and horror hanging on by their fingernails until the final word. In Hell, hope is your worst enemy.

From a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award, this epic trilogy is a “marvelous blend of fantasy [and] realism” (Marion Zimmer Bradley). Tornor is a land of warriors and lovers, a diverse place where devotion knows few bounds and honor stands strong in the face of adversity. Spread across generations, these three novels feature a trio of courageous heroes as they come of age in a magical world. In the World Fantasy Award–winning Watchtower, Tornor Keep is the legendary tower that protects the winter end of a summer land. But when Tornor is overrun by raiders, Prince Errel and the tenacious warrior Ryke must fight the usurpers to save their home. In The Dancers of Arun, a student must learn to control his gifts. As the scholar and scribe of Tornor, Kerris has been in training for the past seventeen years. But it’s not until his brother Kel—of the Cheari culture—teaches him the psychic art of patterning that the city of Elath comes under attack and Kerris must draw on his new talents to fight the dangers of psychic warfare. In the epic conclusion to this fantasy saga, The Northern Girl, a young servant must find her inner strength as she hides a magical talent. The visions begin when Sorren is only thirteen years old and she’s marked as a member of the White Clan of Arun. But this honor of being a witch frightens Sorren and she does not want to come within the Tanjo and serve. Instead, she’s determined to keep this gift a secret for as long as she can—whatever the cost may be. Elizabeth A. Lynn’s groundbreaking series was one of the first to feature same-sex relationships as an accepted part of a fantasy world. Filled with provocative ideas, haunting prose, and boundless imagination, the trilogy will captivate fantasy lovers both new and old.

While the Angel JEDON watches over the birth of his new assignment, TERRENCE PALMER; the guardian is aware of the demonic forces also assigned to his mortal. The enemy: Prince Javin, Captain Domination and Commander Bondo, alerted by Lucifer that the child is destined for greatness. So, bound to make the mortal stumble and to distract him from his destiny. The boy's dysfunctional family already makes for a mire of evil for the wicked trio to perform their feats. Terrence at the age of twenty-five, becomes a popular bartender in an Atlanta prevalent nightclub. However, he and a friend slip into a unique spirit-filled service at Monument of Hope Church. There the spiritual veil is opened, allowing Terrence to see demonic activity in the rafters of the church. Impressed by the happenings at the service, he purchases a Bible and begins to study. After giving his life to Christ, Terrence enrolls in a Spirit-filled Bible College and realizes that his "calling" is Evangelizing. He returns to the church where he first saw the spiritual activity and meets the new Senior Pastor, Jon Daehl. With the help of Terence, they combat a High Priestess nemesis, Marion Cole and her coven who are demonically driven to spiritually bring the renowned church down. Carla, a rogue witch, knows Palmer's worth to her Lucifer, she attempts to sacrifice Palmer on an All Hallows Eve ritual. The LUCIE coven only sacrifices animals; therefore, Marion surprisingly saves the Evangelist and expels Carla. Marion refuses to surrender her son's life to Satan, so he influences a gang of boys to beat up Barry at the age of ten. A blow to his skull with a brick makes him comatose for twenty-one years. Distressed that she has been lied to, and Marion's son is paying for her services to her Master, she rebukes him. Satan then tries to terminate her life by burning her home down with her in it. However, Dr. Terrence Palmer and Rev Jon Daehl visit Marion at the hospital and prays over her as she is set free and saved, but before she dies, Palmer promises Marion that he will deliver her son from the spiritual servitude. Terrence is taken by his Angel into the spiritual realm and with the Guardian's Celestial 77 Amplitude laser sword, battles the demonic forces and delivers the young man from the bondage of perdition. Dr. Palmer's last gift of the Spirit is the resurrection of the daughter of his childhood friend, Albert Trent. Diane passes with leukemia just before Palmer's arrival. However, having fasted two weeks earlier and with much prayer, Palmer is moved by the Spirit of the Lord to pray over the girl, and He will revive life. Twenty years later, Terrence Palmer has congestive heart failure, and his funeral service is held at the old abandoned Monument of Hope Church property. Eleven hundred people attend, and the service also broadcasted on television, as Dr. Palmer, known on television throughout the country, and for his Waffle/Coffee shop ministry is laid to rest.

When I undertook the work of which these two volumes are the result, I scarcely realized the extent of the task before me. Now at the termination of my labours, which have extended over a period of nearly five years, I cannot give my work to the public without regret that it has not been accompanied by deeper study and more widespread research. But I have, in truth, been almost overwhelmed by the mass of materials at hand. These always increased enormously with every digression, and I found at length that I must be satisfied with what I had instead of seeking for more. Even with this restriction I have often been compelled to reject much, to epitomize and perhaps unduly abbreviate what I have used. A really copious and detailed history of Newgate would be a most voluminous affair. This well-known prison, which has stood for centuries upon the same site, is in itself an epitome of the criminal history of England; to have traced its chronicles down from epoch to epoch, closely and minutely, would have been wearisome to the reader. There is a family resemblance in crimes in all ages; when, therefore, the more prominent cases have been selected for description, a general impression will have been conveyed of the whole. I have followed this principle throughout, and have endeavoured to present a general, but not too detailed, picture of the various criminal periods through which Newgate has passed.

A bold fantasy in the tradition of Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber, The Merchant Princes is a sweeping new series from the hottest new writer in science fiction! Miriam Beckstein is happy in her life. She's a successful reporter for a hi-tech magazine in Boston, making good money doing what she loves. When her researcher brings her iron-clad evidence of a money-laundering scheme, Miriam thinks she's found the story of the year. But when she takes it to her editor, she's fired on the spot and gets a death threat from the criminals she has uncovered. Before the day is over, she's received a locket left by the mother she never knew-the mother who was murdered when she was an infant. Within is a knotwork pattern, which has a hypnotic effect on her. Before she knows it, she's transported herself to a parallel Earth, a world where knights on horseback chase their prey with automatic weapons, and where world-skipping assassins lurk just on the other side of reality - a world where her true family runs things. The six families of the Clan rule the kingdom of Gruinmarkt from behind the scenes, a mixture of nobility and criminal conspirators whose power to walk between the worlds makes them rich in both. Braids of family loyalty and intermarriage provide a fragile guarantee of peace, but a recently-ended civil war has left the families shaken and suspicious. Taken in by her mother's people, she becomes the star of the story of the century-as Cinderella without a fairy godmother. As her mother's heir, Miriam is hailed as the prodigal countess Helge Thorold-Hjorth, and feted and feasted. Caught up in schemes and plots centuries in the making, Miriam is surrounded by unlikely allies, forbidden loves, lethal contraband, and, most dangerous of all, her family. Her unexpected return will supercede the claims of other clan members to her mother's fortune and power, and whoever killed her mother will be happy to see her dead, too. Behind all this lie deeper secrets still, which threaten everyone and everything she has ever known. Patterns of deception and interlocking lies, as intricate as the knotwork between the universes. But Miriam is no one's pawn, and is determined to conquer her new home on her own terms. Blending the creativity and humor of Roger Zelazny, the adventure of H. Beam Piper and Philip Jose Farmer, and the rigor and scope of a science-fiction writer on the grandest scale, Charles Stross has set a new standard for fantasy epics.
